I tried a sliced apple this time and was afraid it would turn brown before I got it painted. Carol Marine recommended putting citrus juice, lemon or lime, on apples while painting, and it worked fine.
I think the shape could be more interesting if the planes of the apple were sharper, so a thinner slice might be nice.
